On July 18, 2022, at about 12:10 AM, Claremont Police Officers responded to The Claremont Lodge located at 736 South Indian Hill Boulevard for reports of gunshots heard in the area. Upon Officers’ arrival, they located a male in the parking lot suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Officers and paramedics from the Los Angeles County Fire Department performed life-saving measures. However, the male succumbed to his injuries. The suspect had fled the scene prior to the Officers’ arrival.
A Follow-up investigation led to the identification of the suspect. A short time later, the suspect was located in the City of West Covina and arrested without incident. The suspect, John Martinez, 45 years old from Pomona, was booked at the Claremont Police Department Jail and is being held in lieu of $4,000,000 bail. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. There are no other outstanding suspects.
