First Day of School in Claremont Tomorrow - August 31, 2022

The start of the new school year is upon us. There will be an increased presence of Claremont Police Officers in and around our schools to keep students, staff, parents, and the motoring public, safe. The Claremont Police Department would like to remind drivers to abide by the rules of the road and slow down. Here are a few specific tips:

  • Give yourself plenty of time to get to school and drop off your child.

  • Again, please slow down. Speed limits in school zones are reduced to 25 mph.

  • Come to a complete stop at stop signs. Before proceeding, carefully check for children on the sidewalks and in crosswalks.

  • No stopping or dropping off in red zones.

  • When dropping off your student, please pull as far forward as possible to allow other vehicles to pull in behind you and drop off their student(s).

  • Have your student ready to go and make the drop off as quickly and safely as possible. If your student remains in the vehicle, it delays the entire drop off process and it causes frustration and increases the possibility of a traffic collision.

  • Every vehicle has blind spots so please reverse with caution. Check for children on sidewalks, in driveways, and around your vehicle before backing up.

  • Watch for children on bicycles. Slow down when passing bicyclists and allow at least three feet between your vehicle and the bicyclist. Please ensure that your child wears a helmet while riding their bicycle to school.

  • Do not use your cell phone while driving your vehicle.

Talk to your teen about vehicle safety. Car crashes are the leading cause of death for teenagers in the United States.

Please help us to keep everyone safe.
