Updated: Nov 14, 2022

On November 4th, 2022, the Claremont Police Department and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Bureau of Investigations conducted an undercover prostitution detail in the area of Indian Hill Blvd. and IS-10 freeway. The Claremont Police Department receives multiple complaints from residents, business owners, and passerby’s regarding prostitution in the immediate area.

During the operation, three undercover officers posed as prostitutes and solicited subjects, “Johns” who sought to engage in commercial sexual acts. After the undercover officers were solicited for sex acts, the “John” was arrested by additional undercover officers in the area. During the enforcement detail, 15 subjects were arrested for soliciting a “Prostitute” for sexual acts.

A 16th individual, identified as Jose Berrios, 39 years old from Lake Elsinore, and a registered sex offender for “Pimping and pandering,” was arrested when he attempted to “Pimp and pander” the three undercover officers. Berrios told the three undercover officers that he “Would teach them to make real money.” The undercover officers tried to ignore Berrios and walked away. Berrios chased the undercover officers in his vehicle and became aggressive with them. At one point, Berrios drove his vehicle into opposing traffic and shouted at the officers. Fearing for their safety, the officers continued walking away in an attempt to get away from Berrios. Berrios drove into the Chevron/McDonald’s parking lot, where additional undercover officers stopped him in his vehicle.

Berrios was arrested for “Pimping,” possessing a concealed dirk/dagger, and driving on the wrong side of a roadway. Berrios was transported to the Claremont Police Department Jail, where he was booked. Berrios posted bond and was released from custody with a pending court appearance at the Pomona Superior Court on November 21st, 2022.
