On August 12, 2022, at about 1:37 PM, the Claremont Police Department received information from the Pomona Police Department that a homicide had possibly occurred in the City of Claremont earlier in the day. Pomona PD had received information from Murrieta PD that at 10:35 AM, the Murrieta Police Department Communications Center received a 911 call of a female needing assistance in the parking lot of the police station. Officers from the Murrieta Police Department and Paramedics from Murrieta Fire and Rescue responded and found a female suffering from a traumatic injury in a vehicle in the parking lot of Murrieta City Hall, next to the police station. Police Officers and Paramedics began life saving measures, but she was pronounced deceased. A male suspect was detained at the scene.
Further investigation from the Murrieta Police Department revealed the homicide had occurred in the area of Garey Ave. and Foothill Blvd. Since the area is near the border of the City of Claremont and the City of Pomona, Detectives from the Claremont Police Department and Pomona Police Department responded to Murrieta PD. Further investigation revealed the homicide occurred within the City of Claremont. The suspect, who was identified as Jeffrey Calzada, 25 years old from Claremont, was arrested and transported to the Claremont PD Jail. He was booked and is being held in lieu of $2,000,000 bail. Mr. Calzada is scheduled to appear in Pomona Superior Court on August 16, 2022, for arraignment.
